Clemency Alice share some tips on preventing holidays taking a toll on our skin.

Our beauty routine can often become neglected when we are away on holiday. Whether your travel destination is to the neighbouring balmy tropical islands of the Pacific or the azure blue Mediterranean shores of distant Italy, it is essential to take that time in maintaining your beauty routine. This will ensure that your skin remains moisturised, looks fresh and feels restored.

When selecting your essential travel beauty items, look out for cell boosting (chlorophyll, antioxidants), skin plumping (aloe, rose oil, hyaluronic acid), UV absorbing and protecting (olive fruit extract, green tea, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide) ingredients. Proceed with caution choosing products containing ingredients that may trigger photosensitivity. Chemical exfoliators such as Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (glycolic and lactic acids) and Beta-Hydroxy Acid (salicylic acid) remove the outer protective layer of skin, making it more vulnerable to sensitivity and sunburn.

The foremost item to pack in your beauty bag is a sunscreen of at least a sun protection factor of 25 to 50. Leave behind SPF15 tinted moisturisers and sunblocks since these will not provide effective protection against damaging UV rays for your skin. A multi-tasking favourite is La Prairie's luxurious Essence-In-Foundation SPF25. Presented in a 'state of the art' cobalt blue compact, this exquisite liquid foundation is infused with Caviar Water (refreshes and hydrates), Caviar Extract and Peptides (supports skin firmness and elasticity) and is broad spectrum SPF25 (protecting from UVA and UVB rays). It provides immediate complexion perfection with soft focus pigments and light diffusing powders, making it the perfect companion for in-flight touch-ups and sun-filled vacations.

Save glycolic peels for your return flight home and replace these with hydratant formulated masks that have gel-type textures. These will replenish moisture loss and erase fine lines caused through dehydration and compromised skin through high flying travel. When you have finally settled in to your travel accommodation, apply a generous layer to your face, neck and decolletage. Aromatherapy Associates has created a beautiful luxuriant mask that cocoons the skin with a delicate rose scent. Their Rose Face Mask works to restore vital moisture to lacklustre, dehydrated skin. Imbued with aloe vera, sodium hyaluronate and rose water, this miraculous transparent mask brings renewed vitality and radiance to dry dehydrated complexions.

Travel can take its toll on the skin due resulting in a lacklustre, sallow complexion. Chlorophyll- enriched products will aid in oxygenating the skin and provide that additional boost it requires. Applied topically, it can increase circulation and provide an anti-inflammatory response. Phyt's Serum Reviderm contains 40 serum capsules that utilise chlorophyll-enriched vegetable oils esteemed for revitalising the skin. One miniature capsule is required per topical application and is condensed with skin radiant actives and essences from nature’s bounty. To enhance the effectiveness, try applying to the skin using upward stimulating massage methods. This will aid optimum absorption of the product whilst restoring the glow back to the skin.

Since your skin becomes more clogged and more dehydrated, it is vital that the skin is thoroughly cleansed and well nourished with a moisture replenishing face cream. Select travel size items or dispense your selected products into smaller containers. British brand Elemis offer an assortment of practical travel sized beauty items. From their BIOTEC Skin Energising Cleanser to their Hydra-Boost Day Cream, these keep your skin looking healthy and restored while you’re on the move.

Through being dedicated to your beauty routines whilst away, this will not only benefit your skin but also create a space for some nurturing and pampering.
